Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke

As summer temperatures rise, so does the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially in children and teens. Whether they’re playing outside or at sports practice, prevention is key.

🚨 Watch for these warning signs:

🔸 Heat Exhaustion:
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness or dizziness
• Nausea or vomiting
• Cool, pale, clammy skin

🔸 Heat Stroke (a medical emergency):
• High body temp (104°F+)
• Hot, red, dry or damp skin
• Confusion or unconsciousness
• Rapid, strong pulse

💧 What to do:
• Move them to a cooler place
• Give water (only if alert)
• Apply cool cloths to skin
• Call 911 if symptoms are severe or don’t improve

✅ Prevention Tips:
• Hydrate regularly
• Take breaks in the shade
• Wear light, breathable clothing
• Avoid outdoor activity during peak heat (10am–4pm)
